A Day at the Doctor's Office

I don't know where she got it from but Rheagan has always been small and skinny. So when I took her to the doctor's office the other day it was no surprise to me that she is still in the lower 5th percentile. The doctor was kind of concerned and started asking me what I fed her and what she drank during the day. When I came around to tell him that she drinks 3-4 sippy cups of milk a day, he freaked out and gave me the "bad mommy lecture". He immediately gave her a hemoglobin test, a prick in the foot, which told us she was anemic. Now, I'm no medical genius so I'm thinking this is really serious and I'm the worst mother ever. Turns out, after doing some research on my own, 20% of kids are anemic (granted most of them live in third-world countries) and it's pretty common. All I have to do is make sure she eats more instead of filling up on milk. And here I thought that milk was great for her - "builds strong bones and an excellent source of calcium". Who would have thought that an excessive amount of milk is actually really bad for a kid's something or other in their stomach? Guess I won't be receiving any "Mother of the Year" awards! Parents - be aware of the cow!
